Southwest Greens was founded by Weston Weber in 1996 in Scottsdale, Arizona. As a former professional baseball player Weston knew the hard work needed to rise to the top of any competitive situation be it sports or business. Scottsdale is home to many top pro golfers and soon some of the best players in the world discovered just how good a synthetic green could be. These players began using Southwest Greens golf greens to make their practice sessions more convenient, just out the back door, and Southwest Greens reputation grew.
The company grew too as franchises were established across the country and in a few years Southwest Greens was a nationwide business. In 2005 local businessman and avid golfer Gary Duff established Southwest Greens of St. Louis. Southwest Greens of St. Louis is a bit of a misnomer since we serve a large territory extending well north into central Illinois, well west into mid Missouri, and south to the Arkansas and Kentucky borders.
In early 2008 a group from Atlanta led by future Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz purchased the corporate operation from Weston and moved the headquarters to suburban Atlanta. Mr. Smoltz is a fine golfer who made no secret of his desire to pursue a career in golf after he retired from baseball. Weston and his family settled into a slower pace and Southwest Greens resumed it’s growth. Now a global company Southwest Greens began to broaden it’s offerings to include synthetic turf athletic fields and modular hard sports surfaces.
January 2009 saw the long established relationship with Nicklaus Design grow even closer. Southwest Greens became a Nicklaus Partner Company. The two companies now draw on the complimentary strengths of each other with Southwest Greens getting Nicklaus Design expertise in golf course design and Nicklaus Design getting instant access to Southwest Greens worldwide leadership in top of the line synthetic turf installations. Going forward Southwest Greens will continue to offer the finest synthetic greens available thanks in no small part to our relationships with fine people like those at Nicklaus Design.
